Shifting is not just smooth, it's lightning-fast, with no "shift lag" as you wait for the chain to connect with the ramp pins on upshifts. The aluminum arms join a machined alloy spider, creating a tremendously stiff package that doesn't weigh all that much more than its carbon equivalents.
