Shimano’s Ultegra range is race focused, but at a more affordable price than the top-tier Dura-Ace line. The R8000 offers 11 sprockets and is available in a broad range of ratios, so whether it’s a tightly packed 11–25-tooth block for time trialing or a wide ranging 11–32-tooth for conquering even the most epic climbs, there’s something for everyone. Tough, Lightweight, Durable Machined from a combination of aluminum and steel, an Ultegra R8000 cassette offers an excellent compromise between weight, durability, and performance. To keep the weight down aluminium is used to rivet the largest three sprockets and a fibre-reinforced composite the next largest two. Tipping the scales at a low of 232 grams for the 11–25T, and a high of 300g for the 14–28T option, regardless of your preferred choice you certainly won’t be weighed down. But, not only is this cassette lightweight and high performing, it is also durable. Corrosion resistance comes via the nickel-plated steel sprockets, so you can ride without the worry your cassette will disintegrate at the sight of rain. A Shift In Performance Aside from weight and durability, the R8000 cassette performs its job well.
