To this end, they start with a unique woven fabric rather than standard knit. It's some 50% lighter than usual cycling shorts fabric and yet offers excellent muscle support and non-transparency. The woven nature also allows Castelli to grade the weight seamlessly from the top to to the leg ends - the lower part of the leg weighs a mere 90 g/m² compared to the usual 220 g/m² of standard cycling shorts. This lack of weight contributes to more comfort as temperatures rise. The shorts also absorb less moisture for greater comfort and less on-the-bike weight. At just 114grams they're very light anyway but because they absorb 30% less moisture, they remain light even as you sweat. When you're heading uphill every little bit of weight saved counts. While being barely-there light the fabric is durable and abrasion-resistant against the saddle too - though something this light won't like you hitting the tarmac so ride safe and rubber side down.
