Confidence is given a boost thanks to its superb combination of safety features, unrivalled comfort and the usual Troy lee flair for design. Keeping weight low but protection and durability high is the aerospace-grade fibreglass composite shell. This wraps around an impact-absorbing EPS foam core - the forces from any crash are absorbed and dissipated by this core, offering outstanding crash protection. Meanwhile, breakaway screws prevent the visor from catching on the ground and help prevent neck injuries. Lastly, MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) provides excellent brain-injury prevention - more on that below. MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) The Mips system is designed to provide added safety for helmets in many accidents. For certain impacts, the Mips system can reduce harmful rotational motion that might otherwise be transferred to the user’s head. Rotational motion is a common cause of concussions in oblique hits to the head. In a crash, the Mips system is designed to move slightly inside the helmet to help redirect forces away from the head. Inside the D4 you'll also enjoy the brilliant XT2 washable liner. Lesser helmets will use standard foam liners which after continued use can soon start to feel uncomfortable and even itchy. Not the XT2. This anti-bacterial liner ensures no nasty odours or itchiness, and being washable you'll be able to keep it fresh for every ride.
