The Castelli Superleggera Bibshort is designed for the hottest conditions and is the latest iteration in Castellis quest to build the most lightweight bibshort. Castelli has been developing lightweight bibshorts since 2011, but when designing the Superleggera Bibshort Castelli went back to the drawing board to rethink every aspect of the shorts design. Castelli decided that what the short needs to do is hold the seat pad securely in place while adding as little weight as possible and retaining durability. The solution was to engineer a brand-new fabric that is woven rather a knit, saving 30% in weight for the same level of support. Castelli also worked with a world leading mill to create a graded fabric that becomes increasingly lighter the further down the leg it extends. At the lightest point, this fabric weighs 90g/m2 compared to normal short fabric which weighs roughly 220g/m2. The result of these new technologies is a bibshort that weighs an incredibly light 141g in size large. The fabric construction saves weight, but it really comes into its own when riding hard in hot conditions as it absorbs 30% less moisture compared to normal short fabric. This means that while the fabric saves 48g in weight when dry, it saves closer to 150g when youre sweating your way up Cols and pushing yourself to your absolute limit.
