Modern Forks are far from perfect so together they've tried to eliminate as many faults as possible, the steer tube is threadless for increased strength and is also designed to increase strength at the bearing race, another point where forks typically break. Hydroformed legs with butted thickness because the hydroforming makes it stronger than the typical weld and polish that other forks use.
